The Tropicana Hotel opened in April 1957. The original owner was Ben Jaffe, an executive of the Fountainbleau in Miami Beach. Jaffe faced various troubles developing the property from the time he bought the land. He ended up selling his interest in the Foutainbleau in order to continue developing the property and after construction was completed ended up having to sell it anyway.
The Tropicana has a storied history of various owners and investors. Along the way there was also some mob connections.
As of this writing the deal isn’t completed but the Tropicana is set to be leveled to make room for a 30,000 seat stadium for the Oakland A’s.
